SCB Group, the world-leading, low carbon commodity firm, is pleased to announce that it has reached more than 500 million metric tonnes of CO2 abated.

Through SCB’s transactions in sustainable commodities and renewable energy across Europe, Asia, Africa and the Americas, more than 500 million metric tonnes of CO2 have been abated.

Kevin McGeeney, CEO of SCB Group, commented: “We are proud to have reached this abatement milestone which equates to more than 4 million acres of forests preserved. As of today, we are halfway towards our goal of 1 billion metric tonnes of CO2 abated by 2030.”

SCB’s CO2 emissions abatement calculations, reviewed and assured annually by PricewaterhouseCoopers AG (PwC), include all brokerage transactions in the biodiesel, ethanol, and carbon markets, as well as matched principal transactions of renewable energy certificates and Voluntary Carbon offsets.

SCB’s transactions in biofuels decrease the reliance on fossil fuels and thus increase energy security, improve air quality and the environment. With its carbon transactions, it helps fund projects focusing on reforestation, renewable energy, waste and water management, and carbon-storing.

Carlota Garcia-Manas, Non-Executive Director at SCB, said: “Approaching COP26, I am delighted to see SCB’s leadership in the biofuel and carbon markets while we continue exploring their associated social co-benefits. As they pursue a low carbon future, they are partnering with the charity buildOn in Malawi, which will bring solar-powered technology to light up children’s schools and make evening adult literacy programs available.”
